Grand Slam
Pitching Machine Drills and Games
The Grand Slam
Pitching Machine is the best Wiffle Ball Pitching Machine available. This
article explains some of the drills my kids use to enjoy the machine to the
fullest.
My kids play a lot of games with the
pitching machine and it keeps the use of it fresh for them but still keeps them
swinging. I have seen them play the
following with it:
1) Home Run Derby – a constant from
generation to generation. Each
player gets 20 swings, balls that clear the fence or are hit past a certain line
in the yard are homers. Keep count,
everyone has fun.
2) Hit targets – my kids will setup
a point system that allows them to get points for hitting targets in the
backyard. They will make lines for
a box about 10 feet out and say they get 2 points for bunting a wiffle ball into
that box (try it – it is hard to do).
They will say that a ball hit off our basketball backboard will get 5, a
ball off of our playset gets 3, etc.
They will take 20 or 30 swings each and count up the points – anything to
keep it competitive for them.
3) My older son will use a thin bat
to hit with so he does not have an advantage. He has a Cal Ripken Kinect bat that he
likes to use. It is about 1 inch
wide in the barrel so when he hits it he has really achieved great hand eye
coordination. This allows the game
to be handicapped a little against him.
4) We use it as a full time station
for all practices for our team. We
rotate players through in groups of 3 and let every player hit 30-50 per
practice. All good stuff to keep
players moving and keep practices fun.
We keep a score of line drives in practice sessions to keep it
competitive. We make very good use of pitching machines in our team
practices in order to keep hitters active at all times.
Enjoy the
Grand Slam Pitching Machine!
